Turin, Italy February 4 – Around 300 Tibetans and Tibet supporters staged a peaceful protest rally in the city of Turin, Italy, against the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The protest was organised by the Tibetan community in Italy in collaboration with the many Tibet support groups active in Italy. “China does not deserve to host the Olympic games because of its very poor human rights record and illegal occupation of Tibet. Interestingly, there were many Chinese taking part in the demonstration. They were in favour of democratic changes in china and against the communist regime in China.
This initiative of Tibetan community in Italy is aimed to coincide with the winter Olympic games to be held in Turin from February 10, 2006.
Tibetans and supporters shouted slogans and distributed leaflets to make their voices heard.
The event drew attention of many people that have gathered in the city to the Tibetan cause.
Among those who spoke at a gathering followin teh rally were representative of the mayor of Turin, representatives of Italy Tibet association, fa-lung dafa, Association Solidarity Per Popoli Tibetani, Italian MP Gianni Vernetti and representatives from the regional Piemont government.
