DHARAMSHALA, September 17: The eight Regional chapters of the largest pro independence group of the Tibetan exile community, the Tibetan Youth Congress, have on Monday rejected a three-point resolution passed during the 45th Working Committee meeting of the TYC in Gangtok. The 8 chapters met in Bylakupee for a one day meeting.
Three resolutions were unanimously passed during 45th Working Committee meeting rescinding the membership of those executive members of the RTYCs which, the TYC allege, have violated TYC’s rule and regulations.
The eight RTYCs – Bangalore, Bylakuppe, Mundgod, Hunsur, Kollegal, Dalhousie, Pandoh and Ladakh, during a special general meeting of the TYC here last year had quit the meeting, demanding that the TYC change its stand of independence to Middle Way Approach, a policy pursued by the Tibetan government in exile.
The eight chapters further added, “Except for the difference in ideology with the TYC, the eight chapters have never violated the TYC’s rules and regulations. The day TYC change its stand to Middle Way, the eight RTYC will become a part of the TYC.”
The eight chapters also expressed their dissatisfaction that the TYC Centrex did not consider their opinion in the last one year. However, the TYC Centrex noted that they have tried every possible means to reach out to the eight chapters and engage then into a dialogue over the past year but did not receive any positive response from them.
The 8 chapters further rejected the TYC Centrex’s authority in making any decision relating to the eight chapters.
Following the clash in opinion during the special meeting, the eight chapters made new identity cards, logo and removed the Tibetan word for regional (Sa Gnas) from their names.
Founded in 1970, Tibetan Youth Congress is the largest pro-independence organization in the Tibetan community. It has over 30000 members and 87 regional chapters worldwide.
