DHARAMSHALA, August 27: A Tibetan nun was released by Chinese authorities in Tibet’s Kardze County in “poor health” after serving one year imprisonment.

Shedup Lhamo was released on Saturday and is reportedly in “poor health” due to severe torture in prison.

“She was beaten and tortured while in custody, though she bore no outer signs of harm on her release,” RFA quoted its Tibetan source in the region as saying.

Shedup Lhamo from Geden Choeling nunnery in Kardze carried out her lone protest on August 25, 2012 at around 8:30 am (local time) in the main market in Kardze. She was severely beaten before being arrested for carrying out the protest calling for Tibet’s freedom, long life and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The source said Lhamo is in a poor health though no bruises are seen on her, indicating internal injuries due to prison torture.
