VADODARA: When five rock bands from Gujarat perform Blue, Reggae, Rock and Tibetan traditional music on Thursday, they will do it for a cause. The bands will highlight through these musical genres the problems in Tibet and the injustice to the Tibetans. The concert ‘Bash for freedom’ is jointly organised by Vadodara chapter of Tibetan Students’ Association (TSA) and Students for Free Tibet (SFT).

“We have organised candle light march and silent protests, too, but this time decided to hold this concert to communicate the issues and problems to the youth in the city. This is first time one will see Tibetan students and Indian students of M S University coming together to make people aware about the problems faced by Tibetans,” SFT’s Vivek said.

“This event is for a cause. Students from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Manipur and Himachal Pradesh studying in MSU have been working for last one month to organise this event,” Vivek said.

A masters student from MSU’s arts faculty feels that music is the best way to connect to the masses. “Many are not aware about the problems and present situation in Tibet. Youth have to move to other places to pursue education. Through this concert we want to gather support for our cause,” added Wangmo, a member of TSA.

“SFT is an international student’s body and is very active in metro cities in our country. The city chapter has only five members and we hope many more would join after the concert. If we get good response for this concert, we plan to make it an annual event inviting popular bands from the country,” said Vivek, who is a student of linguistics at MSU.
