Tibetan monk from Sog County arrested from Lhasa

Dharamsala, December 11 – Chinese authorities in Lhasa have arrested a Tibetan monk, Yeshi Jinpa, currently receiving medical treatment in the Tibetan capital, a Tibetan exile with contacts in Tibet told phayul.

The arrest took place on December 2, 2009, according to Ngawang Tharpa, a Tibetan from Nagchu County now living here. Yeshi Jinpa, 44; is a monk of Sog Tsenden monastery in Sog County, Nagchu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).

The reason for Jinpa’s arrest is unknown at the moment, said Ngawang, who added that the family members and relatives of Jinpa were not allowed to see him.

Jinpa has been taken to Nagchu County where is currently held at a detention center there, Ngawang said.
