The International Union of Socialist Youth in corporation with Rashtra Seva Dal and Yuva Janata Dal of India facilitated the whole conference of Asia Pacific meeting of IUSY in Mumbai from 10-12 Oct 2003.
The Asia Pacific conference was represented by youth organizations from 9 different countries of Asia Pacific to which TYC Information Secretary Jigme Trinlay and Joint Secretary Dolma Choemphel attended as a representative from Tibet.
The whole three-day conference revolves around the role of IUSY for the Global governance for Peace, Democracy, Human Rights and Labor and Economic development. It also discussed about available avenues and platform for IUSY to carry its agenda in the coming World Social Forum in Mumbai.
During the three-day meeting, TYC delegates spoke on the issue of Tibet to appeal IUSY delegates to support for the Tibetan Independent movement.
Thereby, IUSY passed resolution on the strategically and geographically importance of restoration of Tibet’s independence to prevail peace in Asia and world at large.
The conference also unanimously resolved to highlight the Refugee issue for the forth-coming world social forum in Mumbai and will carry out the issue as main campaigns strategy of the year.
IUSY Asia Pacific Conference passed following resolution on Tibet
- The IUSY Asia Pacific committee appeals to the International Community to help in restoring the human rights in Tibet and supports the freedom movement of Tibetan people.
- That Tibet has historically an Independent sovereign nation, appeals to the international community to accept Tibet as an Independent nation and condemn the illegal occupation of Tibet.
- To the United Nation to resume the debate based on its resolution passed in 1959, 1961 and 1965, appoint a Special Rapporteur to investigate the human rights situations in Tibet, appoint a special envoy to facilitate a peaceful settlement of Tibet question through UN-supervised referendum in Tibet.
- Appeal to international community to put pressure on China for the unconditional release of the world’s youngest political prisoners of conscience Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet and other prisoners of conscience languishing in different prisons in Tibet and China.
- IUSY will write appeal letters to the International Olympic Committee to make sure that freedom of speech and human rights are respected
- Appeal to international community to use five more years leading up to the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing to pressure China to improve the situations in Tibet.
