Dharamsala, October 13 – The parliament of the Central Tibetan Administration has expressed deep regret and shock over the sad demise of Nyima Drakpa, a political prisoner, after suffering extreme tortures at the hands of Chinese authorities.

While appreciating the recent positive developments in the relations between the exile administration and Beijing, the Assembly of Tibetan People’s deputies called for better treatment of the Tibetan prisoners languishing in Chinese jails.

In a press statement issued today after a meeting of the parliament’s standing committee on issues concerning Tibet’s political matters, the assembly appealed to the Chinese government to create a conducive atmosphere in order to prevent similar treatments to innocent people like Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, held under two years’ extension of death sentence.

“We hold high the selfless sacrifices made by Tibetan political prisoners like Nyima Drakpa for Tibet’s cause and convey our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and relatives of the deceased”, the statement read.

Meanwhile, in separate incidents, two groups with 11 and 23 Tibetan refugees were reportedly arrested last week at Delduldura and Birganj (border with India) respectively for illegally entering Nepal. They have been handed over to Tibetan Refugee reception center through the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Kathmandu, yesterday.
