NEW YORK, June 10 – Arriving Luxembourg this morning, His Holiness gave a public talk on “Ethics for the New Millennium” to an audience of 6,200, who jam-packed d´Coque, the biggest hall in the capital of Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, an independent State in Europe with an area of 2,586 sq km, 454,000 inhabitants (including two Tibetans), and four major European languages.
“His Holiness emphasized the need for warm heart, compassion, tolerance, religious harmony, intellect with kind heart, affection, and broad perspective,” Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Western Europe, said, reporting the visit from Luxembourg.
His Holiness identified affection and harmony within the family as the foundation and source of world peace, Phuntsok said.
Asked about positive elements in China, His Holiness said that it is an ancient country, a huge country, whose people have proved to be industrious whenever the opportunities presented themselves.
Reiterating his commitment to peace and religious harmony, His Holiness said he would work toward this goal till his “death”.
Asked about his political role, His Holiness said he has been in “semi retirement” ever since the direct election of a Kalon Tripa (Administrative head of the exile government) three years ago.
His Holiness is in Luxembourg at the invitation of Les Amis Du Tibet, the only Tibet support group in the Duchy.
He was received at the airport by Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, Mr. Olivier Mores President of Les Amis Du Tibet and other members of the group.
