‘Cycle Rally for Free Tibet’: RTYC, Vijayawada

In the year 1995, three Tibetan Students studying at the college’s of Vijayawada in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India initiated to campaign the issue of Tibet in spite of their strict class attendance. With the passage of time, the Tibetan Students studying in the city colleges felt th e need of platform for Tibetan students to activate their struggle for free Tibet. And they formed Vijayawada Association of Tibetan Students (VATS) on 6th July 1997 and decided to carry out the activities of the Tibetan Youth Congress.

VATS was transformed into one of the Regional Working Committee of Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) Vijayawada on 21st March 2000 and was officially inaugurated by the former Vice President of TYC (Centrex) Mr. Karma Yeshi. Since then, the regional chapter has been actively performing the annual calendar of TYC and other different political activities for the restoration of Tibet’s independence and to make an utmost awareness campaign on the issue of Tibet in the city.

Members of RTYC are primarily college-going students who are shouldering great responsibilities besides studies in restoration of Tibet’s Independence. Since the inception of RTYC, they have been organizing different activities on Tibet’s cause whether political, cultural and social activities in the city.

At the beginning of 2004, 37 members of RTYC are determined to organize a ‘CYCLE RALLY FOR FREE TIBET’ from Vijayawada to Hyderabad covering the main cities of Kondapalli, Thiruvuru, Wyra, Khammam, Dornakal, Mahbubabad, Nekkond, Warangal, Ghanpur, Jangaon, Aler, Bhongir, Bibi Nagar, Ghat Kesar and so on. During this cycle rally campaign, RTYC will distribute Tibet related materials, film screening and organize public meetings to bring awareness among local Indians on the issue of Tibet.

The Cycle Rally for Free Tibet will start on 11th January 2 004 and end at Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh on 18th January 2004.
