Yeshe Togden, President of the Gu Chu Sum Movement of Tibet, and Ngawang Kyonmey spoke today at Cambridge University, on the second day of a UK-wide tour for Students for A Free Tibet- UK.
On Saturday morning, Yeshe Togden met with a Dharma Centre group, and encouraged awarness of Tibet beyond Buddhist practice in the West. Having spoken at Oxford University on Friday night, they moved on to Cambridge University. Student groups, the public and Geshe Dorji Damdul, one of His Holiness’ translators, heard them speak about their concerns for Tibet today, drawing on their on experinces of imprisonment and torture, and knowledge gained from running the Gu Chu Sum Movement in exile.
This evening they talked at the Office of Tibet, to the Tibetan Community in Britain, on a night commemorating His Holiness winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
During their week in the UK, Yeshe Togden and Ngawang Kyonmey will be meeting the Bar of Human Rights Committee, the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, MP’s, City Council leaders and the Vice Chancellor of Nottingham University, Colin Campbell to hilight the imminent execution of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche.
Audience members have commented on how little they knew of the issues and every-day life of Tibetans living inside Tibet. We have great expectations for the forthcoming meetings, and their ability to not only increase the UK’s knowledge of Tibet, but also to impress the urgency of Tibet’s future.
