DHARAMSHALA, December 8: The Dharamshala based Department of Health under the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) is all set to release its first of a kind full-length feature film on generating awareness on substance abuse and tuberculosis in the Tibetan community.
“Kyema – The Agony of Wrong Path” tells the story of a young Tibetan college student Lobsang, whose reckless lifestyle and internal moral conflicts lead him on to a spiralling path of tragedy, riddled with substance abuse and tuberculosis.
The 90-minute feature film directed by Samten Dhondup features Tibetan artistes from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) in the lead roles.
Speaking to Phayul, Tenzin Ignyen, an undersecretary at the Department of Health said that the film’s attempt at generating awareness on the threat that tuberculosis and substance abuse pose to the very fabric of Tibetan community augers well with the Health Department’s aims in promoting health interests.
“The film focuses on tuberculosis, which is one of the deadliest diseases in the exile Tibetan community and also highlights the impact of substance abuse,” Ignyen said while expressing hope that the film shot in Bollywood style will be well received by Tibetan audiences.
“Through this film, the Department aims to create mass awareness on both tuberculosis and substance abuse,” Ignyen added.
The Department of Health works at providing both curative and preventive health care services to the Tibetan refugee community by catering to their basic health care needs.
While creating adequate, equitable, and holistic health care services through its network of Primary Health Care centres and Public Care Programmes, the Department of Health aims at preventing disease through the promotion of a healthier lifestyle.
“Kyema” will premiere at the TIPA auditorium on Saturday, December 10, in front of a select crowd including Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay and Health Kalon Dr Tsering Wangchuk.
