Dharamsala, March 3 – In line with His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s initiatives of building closer ties with Chinese people, Tibetan and Chinese youths in the United States have pledged to resolve differences through dialogue and interaction.

The first bridge conference will take place in New York City on March 14 to “build positive relations and free exchange of perspectives and ideas between Chinese and Tibetan youth with a strong foundation of mutual respect and understanding.”

With the theme of “Mutual Understanding and Friendship Building,” the conference will be attended by Western Tibetologists, Tibetan intellectuals in the US, and scholars and experts from China who give counsel to the policy-makers.

Sponsored by the Chinese Youth Foundation, Hunter College and Pace University in New York, the project is also supported by various Chinese and Tibetan groups.

With different cultural and religious backgrounds, the youths not only recognize the unique cultural and historical path of the Tibetan people but also the overriding importance of China’s national unity in the 21st Century, according to a statement issued by the organizers.

Panel discussions on China and Tibet, featuring prominent speakers and experts had been held in the past. The youths had earlier met His Holiness the Dalai Lama and had several in-depth discussions with high level Chinese government officials dealing with Tibet.

“With a shared dedication to building a civil society, we believe that having constructive dialogues is the best way to solve differences and promote friendship, and is also the first step with indispensable significance towards future resolutions,” say the organizers.

Prospective participants can learn more about the project and also participate in the conference by filling out a form.
