Four Tibetan journalists bearing excellence in their respective fields are in Japan to cover the events attended by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This is for the first time that Tibetan Journalists have escorted His Holiness abroad to cover the proceedings.
The press team is invited and sponsored by a Japanese Woman who chose to remain anonymous but is a supporter of the Tibetan cause. The visit is completely based on a private invitation and has no association with the Tibetan Bureau Office of Japan.
Mr. Lobsang Wangyal, President of the Association of Tibetan Journalists (ATJ), Miss Tsering Tsomo who has been earlier working with Tibetan Review and Phayul, Mr.Tashi Wangchuk from Voice of Tibet (VOT) and Mr.Dukar Bum of Radio Free Asia (RFA) were the four representatives. While Mr. Dukar Bum of RFA only joined the team by paying his own expenses.
‘We were invited as representatives of the Association of Tibetan Journalists (ATJ)’, Tsering Tsomo told phayul.
This visit was expected to built a constructive space for the Tibetan media in the global field and create maximum awareness among the international audience about the Tibet issue. The team has been reporting every events that are being planned during the time.
Tibetan exiled spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama is in Japan to deliver lectures and attend Buddhist rites, despite Chinese opposition to his visit.
His Holiness is due to leave on November 12 to return to India where he has lived in exile since 1959.
