DHARAMSHALA, Apr. 17: The President of the Exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration Dr. Lobsang Sangay said that “approximately 100 Tibetans worldwide” have contracted the Covid-19 although many of the infected have since been cured. He was speaking at a live briefing via Facebook on Thursday.

The Tibetan President said that Tibetans in India must adopt all precautions during and after the lockdown is lifted on May 3. “When the travel blockade is lifted by the Indian government, Tibetans must refrain from travelling unless it is unavoidable because until a vaccine is created, the virus is always infectious,” he appealed.

Dr. Sangay said that as of now, there is not a single case among all 43 Tibetans settlements and CTA staffs in Dharamshala. He also said that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is in good health and is not receiving any visitors.

Secretary for the health wing of CTA Palden Dhondup revealed that over 1151 Tibetans are currently under quarantine and are being monitored for symptoms by nurses under his department. Those who show no signs of the virus after the incubation period are released from the quarantine to return safely to their homes.

The health department will convert quarantine centres in various Tibetan settlements into “COVID-19 Management centres” as part of a long term response measure. “The COVID-29 Management Centre will be activated to tackle potential new infections that may be expected after the lockdown period and travels around the world resumes in full force,” he said.

The Secretary further said that more than 70 percent of Tibetan Health units in the settlements are well-equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE) and that remaining units will get basic equipments in the coming week. Earlier the exile Tibetan government’s Kashag (Cabinet) said it has sanctioned 30 lakh Rupees for the prevention and assistance of any task related to the Covid-19. 8 lakh Rupees have already been released to the Department of Health.

  1. Just another example of how this dictatorship is trying to, and too often succeeding in influencing the foreign policy of democracies. Considering how much of a stain on humanity dictatorship is, it’s sad that so many people are falling for it, or disgusting for allowing themselves to be bought for it. The recent failure of the W.H.O really highlights this. I’m embarrassed for my whole country that Bruce Aylward is Canadian after his fake “didn’t hear the question about Taiwan” then just ignoring the question. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that mainland China is just faking being communist, it’s gotten too good at capitalism. It really has to be considered a capitalist dictatorship now. I’ve got no real legal authority to do this but it makes me feel self important, so what the hell, my approx 1200 sq ft of Canada officially recognizes the Independence of Tibet and the legal status of Taiwan and welcomes both countries as full status members within the World Health Organization, and hopes that both countries can help purge the corruption within it.
