DHARAMSHALA, May 9: The foremost Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama was conferred the prestigious P.V. Narasimha Rao Memorial Award at his residence on Wednesday. Maninderjeet Singh Bitta, also known as M.S. Bitta, the chairman of the All-India Anti-Terrorist Front (AIATF), the former president of Indian Youth Congress and the current President of the P.V. Narasimha Rao Foundation presented him the award.

The gathering included members of the P.V. Narasimha Rao Foundation, along with the grandson of the former Prime Minister, who joined in to commemorate the occasion. During the event, a member of the foundation sought guidance from the exiled spiritual leader on maintaining a sense of peace amidst widespread turbulence and turmoil in the world. His Holiness responded with profound insight, advising against blaming others for problems and highlighting self-centeredness as the root cause for suffering.

“To all the problems, do not blame others. Self-centeredness is the source of all problems. This is very wise and practical,” the octogenarian leader said.

The prestigious P.V. Narasimha Rao Memorial Award, named after the former Prime Minister of India, is awarded to individuals for their outstanding contributions to social welfare and humanitarian causes. Other recipients include Ratan Tata, the chairman of Tata Group, for his unwavering commitment to philanthropy and his endeavours to foster positive change in various communities throughout the country.

Throughout his spiritual and political journey, the octogenarian Tibetan leader has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Nobel peace prize, the US Congressional medal and Ramon Magsaysay award among many others.

  1. P.V. Narasimha Rao Memorial Award presented to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama signifies very important role of three famous Indian past Prime Ministers (Jawahar Lal Nehru, Lal Bhadur Shastri and Narasim Rao) in support of Tibetan just cause. All these Prime Ministers had met His Holiness when they were in power and Shastri had even made a plan to accept Tibetan Administration as an exile government. However, it was very unfortunate for us that he could not return safely from Tash Kant, Russia. I believe, Russia had secretly poisoned him to sleep forever. It is an old tactic of Communism. A friend in need is indeed friend.
