The Capital Area Tibetan Association and the Conservancy for Tibetan Art & Culture are honored to welcome Kyabje Denma Locho Rinpoche to the Washington DC area on April 17, 2004.

Kyabje Denma Locho Rinpoche has kindly accepted their request to address the Tibetan community and has also generously offered to perform a traditional long-life empowerment for the families and children of CATA’s members on the evening of April 17th.

Traveling to the United States at the invitation of the Drepung Loseling Institute in Atlanta, Kyabje Locho Rinpoche will be offering teachings there as well as a retreat in New York sponsored by the Institute, Tibet House, Jewel Heart and others. During his visit, Kyabje Locho Rinpoche will be meeting with Tibetan communities in America — in New York with the help of the Office of Tibet, New York, and here in Washington, DC with the assistance of the Conservancy for Tibetan Art & Culture.

Friends of CATA, CTAC and ICT are invited to join them for this rare visit by one of the few living high reincarnate lamas educated in old Tibet.

Born in Kham, Eastern Tibet in 1928, Locho Rinpoche received his Geshe degree at the age of 25 from Tibet’s Drepung Loseling, once the largest monastic university in the world and home to 10,000 monks, before it’s destruction by the Chinese. Locho Rinpoche first visited the United States in 1978, when he was invited to teach at the University of Virginia for one year. Locho Rinpoche currently divides his time between Dharamsala, where he served five years as the Abbot of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Namgyal Monastery, and Drepung Monastery in southern India, where he serves as teacher to the young Ling Rinpoche, reincarnation of the senior tutor to the Dalai Lama.
