DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 2: Wang Yong, the Vice-Chairman of the government in the Southwest Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), is currently undergoing disciplinary and supervisory investigations, as reported by Xinhua, the official mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party. Wang Yong assumed the role of Vice-Chairman in the so called Southwest Tibet Autonomous Region in 2021.

While the investigation is ongoing, the official statement released by Xinhua, confirmed that Wang Yong is under scrutiny for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and laws. The exact nature of these violations has not been specified in the public domain as of now.

The decision came following an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee, conducted as an inquiry. The investigation found Wang had lost his ideals and beliefs, and engaged in activities in violation of the Party’s eight-point decision of improving Party and government conduct. Additionally, Wang was found to have engaged in activities such as unlawfully accepting substantial amounts of money, in violation of the principles of the Communist Party.

Under the Eight-point Regulation of the Centre, a set of regulations implemented by the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo in 2012 to enhance discipline among party members and bring the party “closer to the masses,” has led to the investigation of 153,662 officials. Out of this number, 108,695 officials have faced disciplinary actions as a result of these investigations.

Since assuming power in 2012, President Xi Jinping has led a comprehensive anti-corruption campaign within the Communist Party of China (CPC) and various levels of government, in the name of good governance and party ideals. However, his graft campaigns are considered by experts to be a tool to purge his competitors and anyone who does not kow-tow to his rule and designs.
