105 from Tibetan schools test positive, all asymptomatic

DHARAMSHALA, Nov. 9: 105 Tibetan students and staff have tested positive for COVID-19 at two different Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) schools. TCV Suja recorded 99 positive cases; 74 students and 25 staff members while TCV Chauntra recorded 6 cases; 4 students and 2 staff members, according to numbers given by a senior authority to Voice of Tibet. As of now, almost all cases have been reported as asymptomatic.

The TCV administration reopened schools for 10th and 12th grades from 26th of October. The affected students and staff have currently been isolated and are undergoing treatment. The authorities have informed respective parents and guardians about their children.

TCV Suja tested 240 people in quarantine on Thursday after their arrival. Similarly, 94 people were tested in TCV Chauntra on Wednesday after their arrival from their respective homes. 

Two of the largest Tibetan schools in exile, the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) and Sambhota schools announced resumption of school from Nov. 2 citing all-India board examination for students of standard 10th and 12th. The Director of TCV Suja, Namdol Tashi refused to answer Phayul’s queries regarding the development, when reached through telephone.
