Tibetan community in India, Nepal reports 87 new COVID-19 cases

DHARAMSHALA, Nov. 6: Tibetans across India and Nepal reported 87 new COVID-19 cases over the last week, the Exile Tibetan government, officially known as the Central Tibetan Administration’s Covid-19 Task Force said Friday.

Deputy Secretary of the Health Department, Tsering Tsamchoe said that the highest numbers were again recorded from Mundgod with 34 cases, followed by Ladakh with 24 cases, Bylakuppe with 15 cases, Delhi with 3 cases, Dharamshala and Mainpat with 2 cases each, and 1 case from Dehradun. There are 57 males and 30 females who have contracted the virus, and the oldest patient is aged 91 where the youngest is only 2 years old. A 57-year-old male from Chauntra in Himachal Pradesh passed away last week. 

Out of the 87 cases, 52 people are currently facing moderate symptoms while 35 were found to be asymptomatic. The Deputy Secretary urged the public to take precautionary measures despite the relaxations of Covid-19 restrictions, “All must abide by the guidelines Health department has issued. Everyone has to be cautious despite the lifting of restrictions. The death count has risen and our community must take it seriously. In addition to avoiding large gatherings, the public is advised to wear masks at all times in public settings.”

A total of 1055 people are in quarantine; 426 are in home quarantine and while 629 are at CTA facilitated quarantine centres. The data compiled by CTA showed there have been 1031 reported Covid-19 cases, 23 deaths, 464 active cases and 544 people have recovered from the virus, till date.
