41 new cases Covid-19 among Tibetans in India, 1 death in Ladakh

DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 28: The Covid-19 task force of the exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration revealed Thursday that a total of 41 cases have been registered this past week in Tibetan communities in India and Nepal.

The task force spokesperson Dr. Tsamchoe during a weekly briefing said that the 41 cases have come from various Tibetan settlements and cities including; 32 cases from an elderly home in Sonamling Tibetan settlement in Ladakh, 4 from Doeguling Tibetan Settlement in Mundgod, 3 cases from Delhi and 2 from Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement. All the cases have been dealt with by placing the patients either in home or institutional quarantine.

According to a reliable source in Ladakh who spoke to Phayul on the condition of anonymity, an elderly male receiving treatment at Leh hospital who was admitted earlier this week has passed away. Another elderly from the same old age home is said to be in serious condition, the same source said.

The dedicated CTA tally on the Covid-19 count reveal that there have been 213 cases among Tibetans abroad, with 165 recovered, 39 active cases and 9 deaths. In India and Nepal, there have been 139 cases, with 80 of them recovered, 55 active cases and 3 fatalities.

The statistics have been gathered through Office of Tibet’s across the globe and settlement offices across India and Nepal.
