DHARAMSHALA, June 5: Three Tibetan girls will compete in the 13th edition of the Miss Tibet Pageant to be held at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts on Sunday.

The three girls, Lobsang Kyizom, Tsering Dolma and Pema Choedon were introduced to the media at a press conference at the organizer Lobsang Wangyal’s Studio. A photo session and interaction with the press was also held after the introduction by Wangyal, who has been arguably the busiest showman of the Tibetan showbiz over the past several years.

Lobsang Kyizom is a 21 year old Tibetan student from Kathmandu, Nepal, who aspires to become a journalist reporting for the Voice of America’s Tibetan service.

Pema Choedon is a 24 year old literature student from Dekyiling Tibetan Settlement, Dehra Dun. She aspires to study political science in the near future.

Tsering Dolma is a 23 year old nurse from Pokhara, Nepal. She wishes to create awareness about various diseases including HIV AIDS in the Tibetan community.

Lobsang Wangyal, the pageant director, said, “They are all beautiful, intelligent girls, and all aspire to become role models for the younger generation of Tibetans. They all wish to serve Tibetan society after completing their studies. So I welcome you all to witness this pageant and support these beautiful Tibetan women.”

Wangyal appealed to the Tibetan public to support these brave women if they care about empowering Tibetan women. “We talk of women empowerment a lot in our community. If you really mean what you preach, come join us on Sunday and see these girls stand tall in Tibetan costumes, western costumes and even participate in various rounds of competition. ”

Following that, the contestants toured Tsuglakhang Temple, Central Tibetan Administration premises and Norbulingka Institute.

Instead of seven rounds over three days, there will be five rounds of competitions on the Grand Finale Night on Sunday – Talk, Talent, Gown, Costume, and Interview rounds.

The winner of the Miss Tibet Pageant will receive one lakh rupees (100,000 or approximately 1,600 USD), the First runner-up will receive 50,000 rupees, and the Second runner-up will receive 25,000 rupees.
