97th Tibet Intergroup meeting held in Brussels

DHARAMSHALA, October 30 – Members of European Parliament, officials of office of Tibet, members of the International Campaign for Tibet, Tibetologists, members of Tibet support groups gathered for the 97th Tibet Intergroup meeting at the European Parliament in Brussels on Monday.

A new book titled ‘Spoiling Tibet: China and Resource Nationalism on the roof of the World’ by Gabriel Lafitte, an expert and researcher on mining and exploitation of natural resources in Tibet, was launched at the meeting.

The meeting was presided over by the president of the Tibet Intergroup in the European Parliament, MEP Thomas Mann.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Representative, Mr Ngodup Dorjee, spoke on the recent Chinese crackdown and the tense situation in Driru county. The members of Tibetan community from Driru county testified on the resistance, arrests, harassment of the local Tibetan population by the Chinese authorities.

The Tibet Intergroup of the European Parliament, which has more than 110 MEPs as members, was founded Michel Hervé (French member of the EP) in 1989.
