DHARAMSHALA, September 19: Khawa Karpo Tibet Culture Centre on Tuesday launched a book by a Beijing based veteran Tibetan communist Bawa Phuntsok Wangyal.
Calling Wangyal a “world renowned writer”, Serta Tsultrim, Director of Khawa Karpo Tibet Culture Centre said, “It is an honor to have his book published and particularly, to have it published while the writer is still alive.”
Tsultrim noted the book talks about independent Tibet, Tibet’s relation with China and Mongolia and other political issues.
Chung Tsering, a Tibetan writer who had earlier translated Bawa Phuntsok Wangyal’s biography “Tibetan Revolutionary” into Tibetan from English said that “This is one of the best books on issues concerning Tibet and China.”
He further added that the book is “an eye opener to the problems faced by various nationalities in Tibet.”
Another Tibetan writer Bhuchung D. Sonam said Bawa Phuntsok Wangyal is a “witness to Tibet’s history at a critical era” and that his book has special importance to history of Tibet despite differences of opinion among Tibetans about him.
The 800 page book that was originally written in Chinese contains the writer’s views on the subject of nationalism and China’s policies towards the different nationalities, and the letters he had written to various Chinese political leaders such as Xi Jinping.
The writer has also worked as an official translator for the Dalai Lama during the young leader’s meeting with chairman Mao in Beijing between the year 1954-1955.
