DHARAMSHALA, November 4: The Dharamshala based Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE) in a press release called upon the international community for stronger support to end the alarming instances of self-immolations in Tibet.

On November 3, Palden Choetso a 35-year old Tibetan nun from the Gaden Choeling nunnery near Nyitso monastery in Kham Tawo region of eastern Tibet had died after setting herself on fire, making it the eleventh incident of self immolation by a Tibetan since March this year.

Acknowledging the resolutions and statements issued by various international parliaments and organisations, the TPiE urged world leaders for more effective and stronger political support in order to put pressure on China to end its repressive policies in Tibet.

“We seek immediate intervention of United Nations and the international community to make sure that China undertakes measures that will fulfill the aspirations of the Tibetan people and grant fundamental human rights to the Tibetan people” said Penpa Tsering, the speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.

Calling for a peaceful resolution of the Tibet issue through dialogue, Speaker Tsering appealed to the Chinese government to look into the causes and address the concerns of the Tibetan people immediately.

Through the release, TPiE also urged the Chinese government to allow independent fact-finding delegations to the distraught region of Kirti, Karze, and Tawo of Tibet where six Tibetans have died after setting their bodies on fire.
