Dharamsala, Febuary 1 – A Tibetan monk arrested in September last year in the Tibetan capital Lhasa has returned home in Tsolho Tibet Autonomous Prefecture after his release a week ago, sources in exile told the Voice of Tibet radio service.

Jamyang Chodrak was arrested after he returned to Tibet from India where he spent eight years studying at Drepung Gomang Monastery in Karnataka, India. He had formerly studied at the Lutsang monastery in Mangra County, Tsolho Tibet Autonomous Prefecture.

In another incident, two monks of Lutsang Monastery in Mangra County had to quit the monastery after they were reportedly found spying for the Chinese government authorities. Sources in exile have told the Voice of Tibet radio service that the government authorities are luring monks into revealing information on monasteries and activities of the monks.

Dokru Tsultrim, a former resident of Mangra County who now lives here said his sources say that the government authorities have informers in other monasteries in the region as well.

109 monks of Lutsang monastery were arrested in February last year for carrying out a peaceful protest march from Lamo Yongzin Phodrang (spelled as pronounced) to the Mangra county government headquarters on the first day of the Tibetan new year (Losar) in 2009. The monks were taken to a school where they were subjected to severe patriotic reeducation campaign. 103 monks were later released.
