Solidarity Vigil for an Independent Tibet

Friends of Tibet-Aligarh on 10 th March organised a candle light vigil for INDO-TIBET SOLIDARITY on the ocassion of 48th Tibetan National Uprising Day.

Campaigner for Tibet Mr. Anant Kumar Asthana, Friends of Tibet-Aligarh Co-Ordinator Mr. Binod Kumar and several other members and Tibet-Supporters joined the Vigil.

The vigil started with an introduction of 10 March by Mr. Asthana, in which he highlighted the urgency of attending the issue of Tibet by Indians.Starting from Chinese Cultural Revolution and subsequent colonisation of Tibet by China, he gave a detailed chronological account of events leading upto 10 March 1959.

Mr. Binod Kumar explained the Security related aspects of Tibet Issue.Other Tibet Supporters expressed their concern for recent stands taken by Exile Government , which they termed as “Discouraging”.The importance of “Independence of Tibet” was discussed at length.

Several attendees shared their feelings about the issue of Tibet.Vigil was attended by AMU Students’ Union Cabinet member Ali Reza Osmani. Speaking on Indo-Tibet relations he said that ancient Cultural bonds with Tibet are to be respected.

The programme concluded with the lighting of Candles in the memory of Victims of Cultural Revolution and Freedom Fighters of Tibet.People attending the vigil took a pledge to speak and work for Tibet.
