It is one hope for Tibetans all over the world today that their voice is heard and Tibet should be unchained from the clutches of autocratic China. The day was literally observed as out of exile and into the streets. More than 800 Tibetans from RTYC Samyeling and RTYC Youth hostel staged a strong protest demonstration here in New Delhi to commemorate the 48th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day. Though many other rallies and protests have been planned and are taking place in the other parts of the world.

March 10 brings back the painful memories of bloodsheds and sacrifices made by the fellow Tibetans in the year 1959 to safeguard Tibet from the brutal Chinese occupation. Tens of thousands of Tibetans risked their life to protect their nation and their beloved leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Following the failed uprising, Tibet’s spiritual and temporal leader, the Dalai Lama, was forced to flee Tibet and was followed by hundreds of thousands of Tibetans seeking refuge in neighboring India. And today Tibetans all over the world are observing this day as one of the biggest National uprising day since 1959.

The protest here in New Delhi commenced from Jantar Mantar till the Parliament street where marchers displayed massive demonstration and chanted various anti-china slogans. The procession carried banners inscribed with “Stop killing in Tibet”, “UNO Act Now”, Tibetan flags big and small and various placards.

According to the press release of the Tibetan Youth Congress, “TYC welcomes anything if China wants the struggle of the Tibetans to be a ‘fight till death’. TYC welcomes it with the faith that if and when required Tibetans everywhere are willing to face death in the struggle for our nation. TYC welcomes it with the strong conviction that there is no death to truth, that truth of Tibetan independence will truimph.

There were also many Indian supporters from The Youth Liberation Front of Tibet (YLFT) whose solidarity and spirit were deeply touching. A minute-long mourning in memory of brave Tibetan martyrs was observed as well. Kashag’s statement was read out later.

“I think these kind of demonstration and protest keep us united and intact and therefore we all must come out and atleast contribute one’s presence during such events”, feels Tenzin Dawa who is a 1st year student at Arena Multimedia Institute and residing at Tibetan Youth hostel.

The protest demonstration eventually concluded with prayers and national anthem.

With these kind of continuous protests and demonstrations, Tibetans living in exile believe that the day will be soon when Freedom will be theirs.
