January 22 – Tibet’s electricity output exceeded 1.5 million megawatt hours during last year, up by around 15 percent compared to 2005, according to the local Tibet Daily.
The local power bureau’s revenues increased by 21 percent to RMB 440 million ($56.56 million), while its net profits jumped 14.6 percent year on year to RMB 57.7 million ($7.42 million).
Around RMB 785 million ($100.90 million) was invested in power construction in 2006.
Over the period, the 6-megawatt Shiquan River hydropower project was put into operation, and two generators at the 100-megawatt Zhikong hydropower plant were also completed.
Another 110,000 citizens were given access to electricity over the period.
A number of new projects including the 400-megawatt Xueka hydropower project started construction in 2006.
In addition the feasibility studies of the 102-megawatt Laohuzui hydropower project were passed, and preparatory construction was launched.
