Final Result of the Assembly Election to be Declared on 28 April

Dharamshala, March 29 – The results of the final round of election of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD) will be declared on 28 April 2006, according to the Election Commission (EC) of the Central Tibetan Administration.

Earlier in this month, the Tibetans across the globe went to polls to elect their representatives to the 14th ATPD and also to cast votes for the preliminary round of election of the Kalon Tripa.

The Local Election Commissions (LEC) will count the ballots cast in their respective areas and will submit the aggregation of the ATPD vote to the EC here by 14 April 2006.

The EC will collate and examine the results from the various places between 15 and 27 April and will declare the final result on 28 April 2006.

The five-year term of the incumbent 13th Assembly expires in May 2006. On 29 May, the 43 out of 46 final candidates to the 14th ATPD will have to report here to take the oath of office.

Three members with distinction in the fields of art, science, literature and community service are nominated directly by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

While the result of the preliminary election of the Kalon Tripa will be declared on 12 April and the final round of election will be conducted on 3 June 2006.
