March 10 – Around 30 odd Tibetans from across Italy joined at around 2.30 in the afternoon today to commemorate the 47th 10th March Uprising Day. The commemoration was held infront of the Chinese Consulate in Milan where Tibetans shouted slogans and distributed leaflets to draw attention of the Italian people to the Tibetan plight.
There were also present the two hunger strikers and organisational secretary of the Tibetan Youth Congress. Ven. Palden Gyatso addressed the gathering and the Secretary of Tibetan Community in Italy Mr. Thupten read out the 10th March statement of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. It was followed by TYC statement read out by Mrs. Pema Yangchen, organizational secretary TYC.
Ven. Palden Gyatso’s attempt to hand over a copy of the 10th March statement of His Holiness direclty to the Consul General was declined by the Chinese officials and was hence left in the Consulate post box.
The commemoration ended with the reciting of Dhentsig Monlam “Prayer of Truth” and singing of Tibetan National Anthem.
