Dharamsala, September 4 – The Tibetan college students of Chandigarh had a rare opportunity of listening to the Vice-Chairperson of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies about democracy, that too on the Democracy day.

In a follow up to the recently launched programme of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies to educate the masses about democracy and political information, Ms. Gyari Dolma, Vice Chair of the ATPD and Ms. Dolkar Lhamo, a Domed Deputy, were in Chandigarh on September 2 at a function organised by the Chandigarh Tibetan Youth Congress and Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, Chandigarh, to celebrate the Democracy day.

Ms. Gyari Dolma and Ms. Dolkar Lhamo gave lectures on Tibetan democracy and its ideals. The enthusiastic students were later on given opportunity to clear their doubts about democracy by asking questions to the deputies.

” Tibetans are fortunate because the Tibetan democracy came about without any bloodshed and without a single shot of a bullet as in other countries where people had to fight for their rights and democracy”, Ms. Dolma told a gathering of over a hundred Tibetan students.

Ms. Dolma expressed disappointment over the small number of voter turnout from the young Tibetans during the election of the thirteenth assembly and said that the democratic rights should be utilised by all to ensure a more representative body.

The two deputies also attended a lecture session held at Sanatan Dharma College, Ambala. The deputies were invited by Sanatan College to talk on “Sino Indian Relations and Tibet’s Identity”, Mr. Ngawang Tsuiltrim, Secretary, Parliament Secretariat, told tibet.net.

Two separate lectures were held for the staff and the students of the college.
