His Holiness the Dalai Lama will bless the Chamtse Ling Tempe, also known as the Interfaith Temple, in the premises of the Tibetan Cultural Center in Bloomington, Indiana, on September 7, a press release issued by the Center said.

The mission of the Interfaith Temple is to promote world peace and harmony. The whole day will be filled with various cultural, spiritual and educational programmes. Jetsun Pema, President of the TCV Schools, Elaine Mellencamp, Congresswoman Julia Carson and former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali will participate in a panel discussion on ” how to find a peaceful solution to conflicts”. This will be attended by children and youth from a variety of cultures living in Central Indiana who will interact directly with the panelists as they discuss issues concerning conflict resolution.

Adults in attendance will have the opportunity to learn about the views of young people and potential non-violent solutions to conflict. The children and youth will also present essays they have written on the topic, “Let peace Begin with Me: I Can Make a Difference.” A group of Tibetan Monks from Drepung Gomang Monastery in India will take part in the afternoon program as well. These Monks will perform harmonic overtone chanting of traditional Tibetan prayers, accompanied by Temple instruments such as horns, flutes, bells, and drums.

The exhibit will display breathtaking images including photographs of Tibet prior to the invasion of China in 1949, images of the devastating destruction in Tibet as a result of China’s brutal occupation, and images of activities in India and North America designed to return Tibet to the Tibetans.

This visit of His Holiness will mark his fourth appearance at the Tibetan Cultural Center where he inaugurated the Jangchub Chorten in 1987. He placed the cornerstone for the Chamtse Ling Temple in 1996. Three years later in 1999, he gave the Kalachakra Initiation.
