Dharamsala, August 16 – As India celebrated its 56th year of independence with much enthusiasm and festivity, the Central Tibetan Administration yesterday held a small gathering in front of the Kashag Secretariat courtyard to greet the host country on its Independence Day.

The Kalon Tripa, accompanied by his cabinet ministers, arrived at 9.30 in the morning. All rose to their feet in respect to the Indian national anthem as the Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche simultaneously raised the Indian Tricolour flag. Laddoos were offered for the gathering after the flag hoisting ceremony.

Also present on the occasion were officials and staff of the Kashag Secretariat. In his message on the occasion, the Kalon Tripa said, “ I express my Tashi Delek to the people of India on the 56th Independence Day on Kashag’s behalf. Tibetans have also been able to benefit from the Indian Independence so my Tashi Delek also goes to all the Tibetans”.

The Offices of the Central Tibetan Administration remained closed on the day as the Indian Tricolour Flags and the Tibetan national flags flapped aside each other on rooftops of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies and all departments of the Central Tibetan Administration.
