Ms. Ngawang Sangdrol at the European Commission

Brussels, July 10 – Mr. Anthony Cary, Chief of the Cabinet of EU Commissioner Patten, received Ms. Ngawang Sangdrol at the European Commission.

Ms Ngawang Sangdrol visited Brussels on the invitation from ICT Europe. During her stay she was able to attend the 68th birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the Tibetan community of Belgium on 6th July and the official reception by the Bureau du Tibet, Brussels on 7th July for the same occasion.

Ms Sangdrol made a strong presentation of her life experience in the Chinese prison in Tibet to the members of the EP Tibet Intergroup on 8th July at the European Parliament. She also appealed the members for their continued support to the middle path approach being initiated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in resolving the Tibetan problem.

Ms Sangdrol was received by the Chief of the Cabinet of Commissioner Mr. Chris Patten, EU Commissioner for External Relations, at the Commission on 9th July. Mr. Migyur Dorjee from the Bureau du Tibet, Brussels and Miss. Dechen of ICT Germany accompanied her to the meeting. She told the EU that time is running out for Tibet and urged for EU¹s visible and result oriented support for Tibetan issue. She said that though she was imprisoned for advocating Tibetan independence, she now fully understands His Holiness¹ vision for the future Tibet and fully support His Holiness¹ middle path approach which she believes is for the mutual benefit of both the Chinese and the Tibetan people.

The officials at the meeting were immensely moved by her presentation and assured her that the EU would continue to press the Chinese authorities on Tibet related issues.

Ms. Sangdrol left this morning for United States of America
