16 bodies found at Sichuan landslide site

Beijing, July 12 – Sixteen bodies of workers who were buried by a landslides on the Sichuan-Tibet highway, one of the highest roads in China, have been found, an official report said.

Rescuers said that the bodies of all the victims have been found. However, they did not exclude the possibility of any passers-by being buried, Xinhua news agency reported from Lhasa, Tibet’s capital.

The accident occurred on the Sichuan-Tibet highway that links the remote region of Tibet and other parts of the country.

A mass of loose rocks tumbled down from atop the mountain road, approximately 500 meters above the workers’ camp, and buried the tents where the workers lived.

All the workers went missing except two who were rescued and later sent to a local hospital.

Rescuers said that the two workers in hospital are now in good condition, and rescue work is continuing.
