17 workers feared dead in Tibet landslide

Beijing, July 11 – At least 17 workers were buried and are presumed dead in a landslide on the Sichuan-Tibet highway, a major road that connects southwestern China with the Himalayan plateau, state media reported on Friday.

Two workers were rescued from the slide which occurred on Wednesday night on the Selila mountain section of the highway, Xinhua news agency reported.

Five of the victims were native Tibetans, while the others were from other regions of China, it said.

Rescuers were continuing to search for the bodies of the missing workers.
