BHUBANESWAR – Former Lok Sabha speaker Rabi Ray has said that the euphoria over the recent talks between Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and his Chinese counterpart is flawed on many counts.

In a statement released here, Ray said by accepting Tibet as a part of Chinese territory, the Prime Minister has failed to serve India’s interest and legalised the illegal occupation of Tibet by the Chinese 54 years ago.

Ray said the Centre’s claim that China has accepted Sikkim as part of India has become pointless as it has been contradicted by China’s foreign office spokesperson.

Besides, the communique is silent on the issue of repeated claims made by China on Arunachal Pradesh.

Stating that the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has expressed apprehensions, Ray alleged that the Prime Minister has failed to elicit a categorical assurance from the Chinese Government that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India.
