See Tibet through different prisms — through the viewfinder of a photographer and through the eye of a painter — in an exhibition that opens this week at the Pacific Street Art Gallery & Studios.

Roger Tremblay of Ledyard and Kim Briggs of Greenwich ventured for the first time to Tibet, and they focused their lenses on the extraordinary people and places they saw.

Among other images they captured on film were those of the holy city of Lhasa and of Tibetan monks.

The exhibition “Through Tibet” records their experiences through the unique land and ancient culture.

The duo traveled under the guidance of artist Christopher Zhang, who also will show his charcoal portraits of the Tibetan people, as well as some of his photographs.

Zhang, who has traveled to Tibet many times during the past 20 years, portrays the daily activities, religious worship, festivities and vanishing lifestyle of the Tibetan men, women and children in his drawings.

Signed copies of Zhang’s newest book “Images of Tibet” also will be available.

Opening reception for “Through Tibet” is 6-9 p.m. Saturday at The Pacific Street Art Gallery & Studios, 11 Pacific St., New London. It runs through Aug. 2. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Wed. and 6-10 p.m. Thurs.- Sat. Call 444-7060.
