His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be visiting Germany from 28 May to 2 June, 2003.
During the weeklong visit, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will address the participants of the first ever Ökumenischer Kirchentag (www.oekt.de/en) in Berlin on 30 May as invited by the organisers. This Ecumenical Congress has been described as a unique forum for dialogue being organised by the two big Christian organisations, the Central Committee of German Catholics and the German Protestant Kirchentag.
Prior to Berlin, on 28 May, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit Wiesbaden, the capital of Hessen State of Germany at the invitation of Mr. Roland Koch, the Minister-President of the State.
His Holiness will arrive in Munich on 31 May to address an International Congress in Sciences that will discuss “Medicine in its Cultural Context” (www.culturelife.de) with participants from different medical traditions, including Tibetan medicine.
“This visit to Germany is part of the continued efforts by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to strengthen the religious and cultural ties between the Tibetan people and the people of Germany and Europe and also to promote closer harmony among various religious traditions,” said Chhime R. Chhoekyapa, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Geneva.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama is also scheduled to meet with regional and national leaders of Germany.
On 30 May, His Holiness will give a Public Talk to the participants of the Ecumenical Congress on the subject, “Peace Without Violence” at the Waldbuehne, an amphitheatre in Berlin. His Holiness is also scheduled to give a Public Talk on 1 June at the Olympic Hall in Munich on the theme, “Human Approach to World Peace”.
During this visit to Germany, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will meet with the press on 28 May at Wiesbaden and on 30 May in Berlin. His Holiness last visited Germany in October 2002.
From Germany, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit Stockholm, Sweden on 2 June, 2003 and then on to Copenhagen, Denmark. In Copenhagen, His Holiness will give a five-day teaching from 5 – 9 June on the subject, “Six Perfections (Paramitas)”.
