BEIJING, May 11 – Forest rangers in northwest China’s Qinghai province have arrested nine people suspected of slaughtering 1,000 state-protected Tibetan antelopes, state media said Sunday.
The suspects were arrested after rangers recently uncovered two cases of poaching of Tibetan antelope, the Xinhua news agency said.
The rangers, with the Forest Bureau in the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve, also confiscated 700 fur pelts, more than 4,000 rounds of ammunition, two rifles and five jeeps used by the alleged poachers.
The Hoh Xil Nature Reserve, located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is home to more than 20 state-protected animal species, including the Tibetan antelope.
