New Delhi, January 30 – Expressing condemnation and grief over the execution of a Tibetan, Lobsang Dhondup on January 26, 2003 in Chinese occupied Tibet, three prominent Dharamsala-based Tibetan NGOs took out a joint demonstration in front of the Chinese embassy in Delhi today at 11 AM. The demonstration was jointly organised by the Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA), Gu Chu Sum Movement of Tibet and Tibetan Youth Congress(TYC). Demonstrators donned ‘KILL ME’ banner in an obvious reference to Lobsang Dhondup’s execution after a secret retrial by the Chinese authorities and shouted slogans against China’s rule of lawlessness and repression inside Tibet.
Police forcibly arrested 33 peaceful protesters; 25 men and 8 women. Those arrested are presently lodged in the Chanakyapuri Police Station and have already launched hunger strike while in detention and as the continuation of their protest againt China’s inhuman action. The detained Tibetan protesters have refused to get released on any kind of surety basis and have demanded release through political pressure only. Among those arrested includes TWA’s President Mrs Dolkar Lhamo Kirti and TYC’s Vice President, Mr Tenzin Samphel, a nun and a host of college students from Delhi University.
The Tibetan protesters demanded the unconditional release of Trulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and 10 Tibetans held by the Chinese authorities in connection with the alleged bombing case in Sichuan province.
