Preliminary teachings begins tomorrow

Bodh Gaya, January 11 – The three-day preliminary teachings of the Kalachakra puja by His Holiness the Dalai Lama begins tomorrow at one in the afternoon. His Holiness will teach on the 37 Practices of Bodhisattva and Lamp of the Path to Enlightenment.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama attended the prayers this morning at the Kalachakra temple. Later in the afternoon, His Holiness visited the Sujata Academy and had a darshan of the Korean Buddhist temple at Dangeshwari, some 20 kilometers from Bodh Gaya. His Holiness was warmly welcomed there by the abbot and incharge of the temple as well as the students of the academy, local villagers and pilgrims. His Holiness returned to the Maitreya Project at around 4:30 p.m.

Preparation of the Kalachakra Mandala began this afternoon at the Kalachakra temple.

More than 1,200 foreigners have registered so far for the Kalachakra puja. The registration will be open for few more days. Over 70 media persons from all over the world have accredited for covering the Kalachakra puja to-date. The press registration will continue every morning until January 19th outside the Mahayana Guest House.

A two-day Bodh Mahatsav, organized by the State Tourism Department of Bihar Government, inaugurated this late afternoon in Bodha Gaya.

Kalon Thubten Lungrig, Kalon for Religion and Culture, and Mr. Jigme Jungney, Additional Secretary of the Department of Home, met with the representatives of the Lhasa Market, Patna, in Bodh Gaya yesterday. The Kashag has sanctioned Rs.3,000/- for each shop of Lhasa Market affected in the fire incident on the morning of 7th January. Out of the total of 108 shops of Lhasa Market, 102 shops were gutted in the fire affecting 56 families. The Kalon has expressed grieve and sympathy to the affected families on behalf of the Kashag.
