DHARAMSHALA, July 14: The Tibetan community in France is enraged at the brutal murder of a Tibetan man named Tsultrim who was allegedly stabbed to death by his Chinese employer at a restaurant in northern French town of Saint-Léonard on Monday. The diasporic community has since expressed outcry and grief over the unfortunate death. “The accused Chinese employer does not have a very good reputation with Tibetans; he had previously employed a few Tibetans who claimed that they were sacked unreasonably within a week. In the case of deceased, he had just started working at the same Chinese restaurant only a few days back.” Tenzin Namgyal from Paris told Phayul about the developing story.

“Judicial police has taken up the case and they are treating it as a deliberate murder case. We are waiting for the result of the autopsy, which will release more details of the case soon,” Te Nam further said. As per sources, the 32-year-old had been in France since 2014 and was originally from Lithang, Kham. Following the news of Tsultrim’s death, many Tibetans in France reportedly left work from Chinese restaurants, as seen in multiple videos shared on social media to protest against the Chinese employers and in solidarity for the slain Tibetan man.

This death has also raised questions regarding the status of Tibetans in the West, and how livelihood compels Tibetans to take up jobs that have lesser remuneration but are readily available. “It is very difficult to get a job in France if you don’t know the language. It is much easier to get a job in restaurants, especially a Chinese one, but not happily as we all know,” he further said.

Various Tibetan associations based in France have organized a peace march on Sunday in Paris from Place de la Bastille to République in the memory of the deceased and to show solidarity with the victim’s family. Another march will take place in Saint-Léonard on Monday, followed by a prayer gathering on July 24.

The situation escalated further as multiple videos surfaced online on Thursday of Tibetans vandalizing the Chinese restaurant where the Tibetan man died. The windows were broken, and a car outside the restaurant was turned over in the videos circulated widely on social media platforms. Although the place was already sealed by the French police, mob violence would possibly harm the case of the victim, netizens opined.

  2. One should now realize that every Tibetan stands for each other where ever they go.. Those who sow regionalism poison in India by few drugged people in Dhasa and in parliament should take example from France Tibetans.
Let’s fight with one common enemy rather than fighting with each other.

  3. Most “Chinese” restaurants in France are actually owned and run by Vietnamese people, not Chinese. Are we sure the restaurant is run by Chinese people?

  4. We Tibetan are scattered all over the world because of red communist China invented our country since 1950s onwards,
We Tibetans have a great reputations on this earth as it is only great guidance of our his holiness, people in world where today we leave every corner of world loves us, support us and respect our problems because of they love and like our only weapon that is non-violence and middle path which is concerned by our one only his holiness,
If we choose violence path , they will be no supporters , if choose the right path that his holiness so far shown us, the final result will definitely be positive,,

  5. We all are sad to lose a brother at that age and more so that we came to the west away from the Chinese communist cadres but now he has been brutally killed by the same Chinese is so depressing. We should never act because of our emotions but leave this matter to the French law enforcement authorities. We hope these murderers have already fled to China. Unfortunately few French authorities are also corrupted by Chinese blood soaked money and they may release these murderer in the society by claiming that they are mentally not fit to stand a trials.

    1. what are you talking about ? in France you are not in India or Nepal where you can buy Police or judge for your own purpose . I am a french buddhist and what you wrote is a pure defation

  6. I am proud of Tibetan people who are in France so left left from Chinese restaurant to show unity of Tibetan community. they stand up for fellow Tibetan deceased guy who was mercilessly murdered and the France police have taken the case. but by showing violence and vandalizing Chinese restaurant which are already sealed, i don’t think that good way.

  7. Free Tibet, justice for Tsultrim! Fight to the store shut down if possible. They should set up some sort of safe donation system so that they can hire the best lawyers possible, so that all Tibetans everywhere can donate, and therefore we can all contribute.

It is beautiful to see all Tibetans of every background release any regionalism they may have had at hearing that an innocent hard working husband and father was so savagely murdered by the soul-less bugmen. This unity is the way we should ALWAYS be!
