DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 31: His Holiness the Dalai Lama wished the President of India Ram Nath Kovind a speedy recovery after the latter underwent a successful bypass surgery, the Tibetan leader’s private office said on Wednesday.

Referring to the President as his “old friend”, the octogenarian Tibetan leader wrote, “I pray for your speedy recovery. I feel privileged to have known you for many years and count you as an old friend.”

President Kovind underwent a successful cardiac bypass surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Tuesday in Delhi.

“The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind underwent cardiac bypass surgery today morning (March 30, 2021) at AIIMS, New Delhi. Surgery was successful. He is stable and is being closely monitored by a team of senior doctors,” a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated.

Last Friday, the President visited the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital after suffering from chest discomfort. A day later, after check up, he was shifted to AIIMS where the doctors advised him to undergo the surgery.
