DHARAMSHALA, Sept. 3: The former representative to North America, Kelsang Dorjee Aukatsang has joined the race for the top office of the Tibetan polity. He announced his contention for the seat of Sikyong on Wednesday.

“My campaign will seek to unite Tibetans under one nation, one people, and one struggle. I will focus on the political, cultural and economic resilience of the Tibetan people and seek to sustain and expand on the initiatives of the current Kashag (Cabinet), boost the role of youth at all levels, and prioritize the five in the Five-Fifty Vision,” Candidate Kaydor said in his manifesto.

Kaydor was a close aide of the current President of CTA, Dr. Lobsang Sangay under whom he held various official positions including, the North-America representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Chief Resilience Officer of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and the Director of the Social and Resource Development Fund (SARD).

The candidate has broadly focussed his intended policies for the exile Tibetan government under ‘elevating Tibet and the Tibetan issue, modernising the CTA, transforming education, sustaining Tibetan language and culture and enhancing the economic resilience of the CTA.

Under his role as the Chief Resilience Officer and Director of SARD, the United States aid to the CTA has increased significantly over the years.

The candidate in his manifesto, stated that if elected, his administration will, “recognize the importance of young Tibetans and elevate the role of youth within the CTA and in the Tibetan freedom struggle. In addition to appointing a youth as one of the Kalons (ministers), a new youth division will be created within the Department of Home led by a youth with the equivalent of a Secretary rank.”
