DHARAMSHALA, May 13: The Dharamshala based Dalai Lama Trust donated a consignment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital (Tanda) in Kangra district, one of the only two Covid-19 testing centers in the state of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

The staffs of the Trust delivered 500 kits of PPE to authorities at Tanda hospital yesterday. A senior official told the media that the trust’s task force which includes Dalai Lama’s personal physician Dr. Tsetan Dorji Sadutshang, personal physician to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Chief Medical Officer of the Delek Hospital in Dharamshala, gave the suggestions for the same.

The ongoing global pandemic has seen acute shortage of PPE’s, testing facilities and diagnostic drugs around the world. Demands that have skyrocketed in the past months has resulted in key production hubs like China producing sub-standard PPEs that many nations have returned citing poor quality.

The Dalai Lama Trust will also donate rations and other essentials to underprivileged member of the community like slum dwellers and migrant workers who are especially distressed due to the nationwide lockdown here. A total of 200-300 household of around 2000 people in 10 different areas in the district will be given rations and other essentials in the coming weeks, the senior official of the DLT said.

The exiled Tibetan leader earlier donated to both the state CM fund and the Indian PM fund dedicated to relief operations. In advice, the octogenarian Tibetan leader last month said, “Eventually, this virus will pass, as I have seen wars and other terrible threats pass in my lifetime, and we will have the opportunity to rebuild our global community as we have done many times before. I sincerely hope that everyone can stay safe and stay calm.”
