DHARAMSHALA, May 1: The recent article by Chinese mouthpiece, Global Times is an “opportunistic attempt” by the Chinese government to sow discord between the exile Tibetan set up and the Indian government, the President of the Central Tibetan Administration Dr. Lobsang Sangay said Thursday.

The article published on April 27 by Global Times suggested that exile Tibetans in India and Nepal “eye return to China for fear of virus” as health care systems in the two countries are poor and the refugees fear for their well being.

“The key agenda of the Global Times article is to insinuate inability of the Indian government and the exile Tibetan government to provide adequate medical assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic and in affect try to sow discord between the exile Tibetan setup and the Indian government,” Dr. Sangay said during the live cast on Facebook.

He said that his administration provides all basic amenities and assistance including healthcare to the tune of close to 10 crore rupees annually to the old and destitute Tibetan refugees in India and Nepal, as well as nearly 5 crore rupees to students in the education sector in scholarships annually.

The Secretary of the CTA’s information wing Tsewang Gyalpo Arya said that the Global Times article is “incorrect and misleading”. He wrote that CTA, “has well defined welfare and poverty alleviation programs to look after the livelihood, education and health of the needy Tibetans. The Settlement officers coordinate with the respective local authorities and the Administration to monitor and answer the needs of the Tibetans in the settlements. Therefore, the inference that the Tibetans are in a poor situation in India is false and a deliberate fabrication on the part of Chinese official media.”

“The world is passing through a difficult time because of this Chinese Coronavirus. The Chinese leadership should actually be taking moral responsibility to contain this global pandemic and apologize to India and the international community for the devastation it has created around the world,” Arya added.

The month of May marks the more than five months since the Covid-19 which originated in Wuhan, China spread across the globe. The pandemic has claimed the lives of 235,290 people globally till date.

  1. We must read CTA’s rebuttal to the Global Times piece ” China’s Global Times article false, incorrect and misleading – a rebuttal” . please read here https://tibet.net/chinas-global-times-article-false-incorrect-and-misleading-a-rebuttal/ We must applaud Arya for point-by-point rebuttal, and spread this as much as possible.

Also read here the most ridiculous article in global times titled ” Exiled Tibetans eye return to China for fear of virus” here https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1186932.shtml. They said Dharamsala had no hospitals! We all know there is Zonal hospital, Civil Hospital, Tandra Hospital, and many private ones as well. Blatant misinformation.
