Dalai Lama donates to CM relief fund to fight COVID-19, expresses support

DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 26: The exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed support for the measures taken by the state government of Himachal Pradesh and central government to combat the outbreak of the COVID-19. His Holiness made a monetary donation to the Chief Minister’s fund to provide essentials to the less privileged members of the society.

In a letter written to the state CM Jai Ram Thakur, the Tibetan leader said, “Since Himachal Pradesh has been my home for almost 60 years. I naturally feel an affinity for its people. Therefore, as a token of respect and sympathy, I am making a donation from the Gaden Phodrang Trust of the Dalai Lama to the Chief Minister’s Fund in order to contribute to providing essential supplies like food and medicine for the poor and needy members of the community.”

The octogenarian Tibetan leader also expressed his confidence in the steps taken by the Central Government, under the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s firm leadership, to contain the spread of the virus. India has been under a 21-day lockdown since March 25 after a spike in positive cases.

As of Thursday, there are two confirmed cases and a death in the state of Himachal Pradesh and 593 confirmed cases and 13 deaths in India.
