Two tests positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh

DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 20: Two people have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 in Kangra District after preliminary testing was done at Tanda Medical College Hospital, Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur confirmed during a press conference on Friday evening.

A 32-year old male who arrived from Singapore and a 63-year old female who came back from Dubai have tested positive for the virus at the government hospital testing lab at Tanda Hospital, one of the only two testing centers in the state.

Samples have been sent to Pune for further testing and the patients are kept in isolation with thier family placed in home quarantine, CM Thakur said.

The cases are the first in the Himachal Pradesh state where the exile Tibetan government is based and where His Holiness the Dalai Lama resides. The Central Tibetan Administration which has created a task-force comprising of medical professionals and officials, advised civil servants of precautionary measures, sanitised the work places and closed office until Monday.

The Union health ministry on Friday said that 223 coronavirus positive cases have been reported in India so far and more than 6,700 people who have come in contact with them are under surveillance.
