DHARAMSHALA, April 13: Former Tibetan Prime Minister Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche said that the unity among the Tibetan people is very important for the collective merit of the Tibetan people which he said might disintegrate if the Tibetans don’t be careful about bringing disappointment to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The former Tibetan PM who did not cast his ballot in the recently concluded elections was speaking on the first day of Yamāntaka teachings at Gyuto Monastery on Tuesday. The former acadececian told an Indian daily that the candidates of Tibetan election 2016 were involved in “opposing each other through their individual campaigns,” he said. “Therefore, I think, the exiled government is not heading in the right direction,” Rinpoche told TOI.

The former Prime Minister further said, “It is useless to point fingers at each other. Since we are humans with flaws, we must leave behind the matter of who and where the mistakes were made. Rather we must focus on rectifying it in order to avoid it in future. It is also important that we must make effort to enhance our collective merits.”

The recent developments in the Tibetan exile polity including the state oracles’ divinities and its discourse in the Diasporas have brought some embarrassment to the Tibetan exile government although the Tibetan PM Lobsang Sangay and his counterpart in the elections Speaker Penpa Tsering did express remorse and apology to the public.

Emphasizing on the need for unity among Tibetans, Rinpoche said, “The main source of unity will be through being compassionate, respectful and being cooperative towards each other.”

“We must always profoundly pray for the well being and long life of His Holiness and we must also frequently pray that we Tibetans never lose his blessings,” he said.
